Rebelle 7 Pro and Chrome Canvas.

This past week I’ve been trying different digital art software and devices.

four different colour versions of one image of a pine tree against the sky

Four experiments using Rebelle 7 Pro with an old but excellent Wacom tablet connected to a laptop.

Even though these paintings aren’t great I learned a lot of valuable information:

  • I really need to draw directly on a screen. The disconnect between tablet and screen doesn't work for me

  • learn one thing at a time

  • to use tools/equipment I feel comfortable with while I’m learning

I made a tactical retreat and to give myself a bit of confidence I went back to my Chromebook and the Chrome Canvas app already installed on it.

a moonlit castle silhouetted against a dark blue and purple sky

“The Castle on the Rock”

The moon looked down on the castle as she had done for centuries, glad that peace had come to the land.

Digital pastel.

This was painted from imagination without any starting idea or preparatory sketches. I blocked in areas of colour, building up thin layers and worked with what emerged. I love castles and I’m reading “The Return of the King” by Tolkein so that may have had an influence. It’s a wonderful book to read with a hot drink in hand as the daylight fades.
