Pencil drawings, Greetings Cards and a Newly Designed Website.
Over the winter my partner and I have been thinking about our many different creative callings and what we’d like to do with them. We’ve decided to expand this website from ‘mine’ to ‘ours’ and have re-vamped the design of it so it can grow to reflect our varied skills, experience, materials and media. Just like the Cole Porter song, “Anything Goes”!
As well as re-designing this website I’ve sorted through some of my artwork from the last ten years or so to produce a range of greetings cards. You can find landscapes, seascapes, skyscapes, castles, mills, monuments, hares, spiders dancing(!), hearts, angels, flowers, trees, abstract art, patterns galore in all sorts of styles and media, and even psychedelic art!
To break the tedium and long hours on the computer I’ve been drawing in pencil. Nothing unusual about that you might think, but until about 18 months ago I only used an ink pen to draw, using a scratchy, ‘messy’ style. I can’t remember what specifically prompted me to pick up a pencil other than simple curiosity. What a delight it’s proven to be! The softness of pencil on paper, the subtle tonal values, the ability to blend, the simplicity and versatility of it, and I’ve discovered a whole new style to my drawing.
Here are two small studies from my sketchbook, a little grubby, with practice scribbles and blocking-in lines on them.
I hope you enjoy them.

She was giving me a hard stare because I’d just put one of those large collars on her to prevent her scratching her ear!
CeCe, my niece’s cat.

Size: very small as you can see from my thumbnail in the bottom left corner.

It was a cold start to the day and frost was on the grass. The geese were warming themselves in a patch of sun.
