Comfort art.

Last week I read a blog post by Paivi at Peony and Parakeet about the art she makes for comfort. She observed that there is comfort food, why not comfort art? So I thought I’d share with you what I create for comfort and pleasure. I make digital images on my phone. Here’s an example of the process.

photo of some Stabilo pencils on a piece of paper covered in doodles and sketches

Take photo of an uninspiring bit of ugly art.

I chose the right hand side of this piece of paper. I’d been mark-making with the Stabilo pencils to get a feel of them.

abstract digital painting in fuchsia pink, navy blue and cream with a floral theme

Open the photo in any photo editing app and experiment with filters and effects.

This one makes me think of looking deep inside a flower, a bee’s eye view!

digital image of geometric triangle pattern each triangle filled with a different colour from a limited colour palette of blue, pink and cream

The colour palette from the previous image.

I find this image very comforting. There’s the regularity of the pattern and shapes, the subtle variety of the colour palette and it reminds me of pearlescent eye shadows.
